GP de Plouay-Bretagne Preview (1.WWT)

5 months and half after inaugural race of the UCI WWT at the historic city of Siena, it is time now for Plouay, France. The fifteenth edition of GP de Plouay-Bretagne (previously included in the UCI Women’s Road World Cup) will witness the penultimate round of the UCI Women’s World Tour.

Once American rider Megan Guarnier (Boels Dolmans) mathematically guaranteed her victory, with only two rounds to be held out of seventeen, at the inaugural UCI Women’s WorldTour series, the attention lies in both the secondary classifications and the partial victory.

A total of 21 teams, including 2 national teams, will participate in this edition of GP de Plouay-Bretagne. Sheyla Gutiérrez (Cylance), Ane Santesteban (Alé Cipollini), Mavi García, Lourdes Oyarbide, Lierni Lekuona, Lorena Llamas, Irati Idirin (Bizkaia Durango), Empar Felix, Elisabet Llabrés, Cristina Martínez, Eider Merino and Alba Teruel (Lointek) will be our Spanish representatives at the sixteenth UCI WWT round.

Route 121,5km: Plouay-Plouay

Plouay R&M

The race course is very similar to the previous editions of the race. Riders will have to cover four laps to a 26.9-kilometre circuit, which includes three climbs, and a final lap to a 13.9-kilometre circuit, which only includes the first and third climbs,  totalling 121.5 kilometres. The three climbs are:

  1. Côte du Lezot: 1 kilometre long at 6% average gradient
  2. Chapelle Set Anne des Bois: 6 kilometres long, not very steep
  3. Côte de Ty Marrec: 1.4 kilometres long with steep gradients

Previous edition

Current World Champion Lizzie Armitstead (Boels Dolmans) won the previous edition of GP de Plouay-Bretagne, sealing her second overall World Cup victory. The British rider was the fastest at the final sprint from a nine-rider group. Swedish rider Emma Johansson (Orica – AIS) and French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prevot (Rabobank Liv) completed the podium, second and third respectively.
